Happy Passover- Chag Pesach Sameach - to our Jewish friends and members. It is a very difficult time to be apart from family and this year we think of all those we are missing from our seder table and look forward to celebrating next year together, in good health.
An important update for our members in care, as social carers WILL now get the full and proper PPE, including masks. Scottish Gov’t Ministers assure us there are sufficient stocks, and we will be vigorously monitoring to ensure that they reach our members on the frontline ASAP.
Thousands of Scotland’s frontline care workers issued an open letter to @NicolaSturgeon, calling for the protection and testing they need to keep themselves safe. You can read their letter here: https://tinyurl.com/qob5n9s
Repeated attempts by GMB to engage ministers in the crisis of trust around PPE for care workers have been ignored. In the absence of a response from Cabinet Secretary @ClydesdAileen or reassurance from today's press conference, we endorse @COSLA's demand for a call with the DFM.
The @GMBGlasgowCC Cleansing Convenor Chris Mitchell sent us this video, setting out some of the measures they’re taking to practice social distancing and to try to keep workers in the service safe during the coronavirus crisis.
The truth on the social care frontline is that we have a workforce with no confidence, no proper PPE, no testing regime and, ultimately, that are not valued for the work they are doing. @GMBScotOrg's Paula Logue & Shona Thomson spoke to @BBCRadioScot about the crisis in care.
Today's @COSLA call on PPE for carers was a shambles. Last night's letter issued by the Chief Nurse tried to roll back on commitments made to care workers. GMB Scotland has called, for weeks, on @ClydesdAileen to step in - without any reply. The Minister needs to step up today.
